Rapier of Atonement

This delicate blue blade steams with frost and is always cold to the touch. White streams of frozen air wrap around the hilt forming the guards and quillons while the blade itself resembles a long thin needle sharp icicle. The sword is far stronger than it looks and was forged in the cold heart of Stygia, home of the Dark Lord Levistus

The Rapier of Atonement is a +3 Frost Rapier with the following properties and powers.

  • Enhancement: Attack and Damage rolls.
  • Critical: +3d6 cold damage.
  • Property: This weapon scores critical hits on a 19 or 20.
  • Property: This weapon counts as a High Crit weapon.
  • Property: When you drop an enemy to 0 hit points or fewer with a melee attack made with this weapon, their soul is sent to Stygia. A creature killed by this power can’t be returned to life with a Raise Dead ritual.

Power (At-Will): Free Action. All damage dealt by this weapon is cold damage. Another free action returns the damage to normal.

Power (Daily): Free Action. Use this power when you hit with the weapon. The target takes an extra 2d8 cold damage and is slowed until the end of your next turn.

Roleplaying the Rapier of Atonement

The Rapier of Atonement lives to bring down dissidents and heretics who either threaten society or have escaped justice for their crimes. It has the cold heartless acumen of a judge and always keeps its cool. It casts judgment upon its enemies and delivers its verdicts in an icy whisper.

Power (Daily): Minor Action. Make a Melee Basic Attack. On a hit the target is stunned until the end of your next turn.

Satisfied (12-15) “None shall escape our justice!”

The owner has proven itself to be an honorable ally and the Rapier of Atonement whispers words of advice when dealing with others.

Property: You gain a +5 bonus to insight checks.

Power (Encounter) Minor Action. Make a Melee Basic Attack. On a hit the target takes a -2 penalty to all defenses until the end of your next turn.

The Rapier of Atonement regards the owner as reckless and dishonest and it will not remain in his or her possession for long.

Property: On an attack roll of natural 1 the Rapier of Atonement drops from its owners hands and he or she is immobilized until the end of their next turn.

Moving On “The Rapier of Atonement tirelessly seeks out those who have escaped justice, and knows when it is needed elsewhere.”

When the wielder next gains a level the sentience within the weapon will choose to leave, either leaving behind a +3 Rapier of Frost after a victory, or by betraying its owner in the heat of battle by slipping from his or her hands and shattering on the ground, depending on its concordance.
